I just finished reading this book and loved it! I'd like to thank Melinda Carter for having a (free) book sale a few weeks ago, where I found this book. The first thing that caught my attention about this book was that it said "Brooklyn" in the title. Since living in New York this summer, I feel like I have some claim on the new york city/surrounding boroughs like Brooklyn since I worked in Brooklyn 2 days out of the week. I mean I really dont...
Anyways I really enjoyed this book. It's a coming of age story of a girl named Francie Nolan through the years 1910-1917, when she was 10-17 years old. Now I know that might sound boring, and but it was so interesting to read about how this girl lived and what she did how and what is was like to be poor in those days. The author Betty Smith, wrote a lot from her own experiences growing up in Brooklyn during these times too. A lot of historical events/places were mentioned and it was cool to think that this girl Francie really lived during them. It was fun to hear of places she was talking about in Brooklyn or NYC and remember them with her.
I love reading, but get sad once I finish a book, knowing that its the end of my relationship with these characters! Yeah...sometimes I feel like these characters are real and my friends. I guess that's when I know it's been a good book!
It is fun though getting to choose another book from my book list :)
