My parents lived two blocks from each other when they were in high school. All of my aunts and uncles and cousins live in Colorado (except 2) so we stay pretty busy and have two reunions while we are there. Also since my grandparents lived 2 blocks from each other my aunts and uncles on both sides grew up together too. So it's not uncommon to have dinner at my maternal aunts house and have fraternal aunts and uncles there. Hope that's not too confusing!
We did a lot but, I'll highlight a few:
Cheyenne mountain zoo: I haven't been to this zoo in years! But now since there are a lot of little cousins we thought we would make a trip! It's a beautiful zoo set on the mountain side!
All the little cousins
The giraffe and elephant exhibits were my favorite. You can literally pet the giraffes! It was so cool but also very frightening bc they are huge! The elephants are viewed from a hanging bridge you cross over. Tr view of Colorado Springs is beautiful. We had a great time and had an even better nap afterwards.
Grandma:
My grandma recently moved into a nursing home so this was the main reason to visit. It was sad to see her not in her home, but she seems okay and is enjoying the activities at the nursing home. She is so sweet and loved watching the kids play in her room. She loves spicy shrimp chips and apparently so does Parker!
Cousins:
Every summer growing up we would spend 1-2 weeks in Colorado. My sister and I always had so much fun with our cousins. We would have lemonade stands, walk to the Quick for a milkshake, cartwheels in the front yard... Now that we are older is wish we lived closer to them...bc they are still so much fun to be around! We were able to have a girls only "lady joy" hot tub party at the hotel my aunt was staying at.
This is a sister-cousin-niece-aunts picture!
Weather:
It was absolutely gorgeous while were there! And it was a pleasant change from the hot Texas heat. We spent a lot of our time in Colorado outside and didn't sweat! It was wonderful! It rained the last two days we were there and we needed a light jacket. It hailed while we were having a BBQ at my aunts house and tr kids loved playing in the ice after it stopped!
Overall we had a great trip! It was a little hard/exhausting with two kids (chasing them around, short conversations and they caught a coughing cold). But I'm very thankful we were able to be with family and enjoyed making memories with each other! Hope to make it next year!
Flight home to Texas!
