I probably read this book in elementry and I've seen the movie plenty of times! But it was so fun to read as an adult. I mostly picked this one because I knew I needed to read a book this month and I wanted to start reading to Violet. (And it was the only interesting book at the moment on my parents bookshelf. I think it might be the original book cover...its super old looking..) Anyways I didn't realize this as a child but Charlotte's Web is all about death, even from the very beginning with Fern saving Wilbur. I thought that the death subject was so interesting in a such a beloved children's book. I guess it would be good to read or watch the movie with your child and then discuss death afterwards...or is that too morbid? I got a little annoyed with Wilbur's character, he was just whined all the time and was frantic about everything! But then again I had to remember he was only a baby in the story, and well that's what babies do! I forgot how sweet Charlotte's charater is to all the animals. She reminded me a lot of a "christ figure" in the story. She befriend Wilbur, risked it all to save him from dying, like Jesus did for his people. She even left him with helpers as her children...like Jesus sent the Holy Spirit. okay I may be getting too into the spiritual connection here, but it just struck me as to how loyal, accepting, and loving Charlotte was to Wilbur. Anyways Violet and I had a great time reading together :)
