I am going to tell you right now, this book goes in to my top 5 favorite books. It was an incredible story and very very well written. Rocket Boys is a true story of "Sonny" Hickam, the rockets he builds, and the adventures he has as a teenager growing up in Coalwood, West Virgina. You may have seen the movie October Sky with Jake Gyllenhall a few years back...yes this is the book. Sonny and his friends grow up in a mining town with not a lot to aspire to be except to me a miner. With all of their hard work and many hours building, thinking and experimenting they create a rocket and become the talk of the town. It is such an intriguing story as it follows along with the space race the US had with Russia. Growing up with it only being 'normal' to see or read in the news about space and astronauts. But back in 1957 this was all new to everyone. I highly recommend this memoir! Two thumbs up!
