Night Night

Sleep has been rough this week!! Normally V is a great sleeper, with maybe waking up a few times in the middle of the night, but then with some soothing goes right back down. Well something was up because that is not what went on this week. Monday and Tuesday night were awful. Starting at around 12:30pm both nights she was waking up about every 2 hours. I would do our 'normal' thing (put her paci back in, hand her her blanket, lay her back down, pat her back) when it looked like she was sleeping again I would go back to bed. Not more then 5 mins later she would cry out/whimper again...so I would repeat our 'normal' thing. but again no go. So I picked her up rocked her until she was asleep and put her back in her crib and went back to bed....5 mins later again! seriously?! this continued to go on for about 30 mins...every two hours! The sweet thing is, is that she doesn't really cry, just whimpers, and when I do pick her up, she immediately rests her little head on my chest. I wasn't too bothered by all the getting ups, I just couldn't figure out what was the matter. Maybe teething again? maybe she's just uncomfortable? My sweet Husband tried to help, but she would just get excited and want to play when he would come in. So I rocked her a lot those nights, just praying for Patience for me and sleep for Violet. Luckily the last wake up was at 5ish and she actually slept in both Monday and Tuesday until 8:15. Hallelujah! She/I haven't slept that late in a really long time!

Wednesday and Thursday night she woke up twice. We did the 'normal' thing and praise the Lord she continued sleeping. Sadly though bc of the previous nights it hard for me to fall asleep sometimes after soothing her bc of fear/anxiousness that she is going to wake up again. But I was able to get good sleep those nights.

Last night V woke up at 12:45ish and then was up and down again until 1:30am. But that was it. Again my sweet husband got up with her at 7:15am and let me continue sleeping until 9:15am! woohoo! (Thanks B!) and I woke up to hot coffee and homemade sausage kolaches!

This sleep thing is a hard thing to figure out. With infants you know you aren't going to get a lot of sleep, but you are expecting it. Then when they get older the big question is "are they sleeping through the night?" which really means 4-6 hours stretches. Sleep is a learned thing for babies, you have to teach them. I was reading an article about baby sleep and a couple of doctors gave their opinions. One doctor was saying we only expect babies to sleep 8-10 hours each night because thats what WE as a adults want. And this isn't the case with babies. Some babies sleep better than others. My mom told me I didn't sleep through the night until I was like 4. oops! :) Honestly some nights I dont know how I get up and down so many times, or if i'm sleeping while doing it. Some nights I'm really annoyed and fustrated but after I calm down I remember patience, endurance, and wisdom and then the night it a little bit easier.

Emily- it's crazy how little sleep you get at the beginning and how you STILL are able to function. I guess you get use to it. But trust me I get A LOT more sleep now!

Tay- I have heard that too! maybe it's true! AND more babies are born on full moons! strange!
