Carmalitas

YUM! is all I have to say about this recipe! My friend Grace passed it on to me and I had to giggle at the name of it "Carmalitas" because that's my grandmas name! Anyways if you are looking for an semi-easy, quick, rich, delicious, carmel, chocolate goodness then THIS is the recipe! I know I should of taken pictures! Here it goes:

Ingredients
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 cup flour
1 cup quick oatmeal
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp soda
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup margarine, melted
32 carmels
5 tbsp milk
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped nuts (I used pecans)

How to make it
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mix first 6 ingredients until a crumbly mixture.(try not to eat all of it like I did!!)
Press 1/2 of it in a 9 x 9 or 8x8 pan.
Bake 10 minutes at 350 degrees.
Melt caramels in milk over low heat in top of double boiler. (My dad did this part and it was hard work! So have some patience and just keep stirring!)
Remove the baked crumb mixture from oven, sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts over it.
Pour melted caramel mixture over the chips and nuts.
Press the other half of the crumb mixture on top.
Bake for 15 minutes.
Cool slighly before cutting into squares

This would be fantastic under Bluebell homemade Vanilla ice cream right after it's out of the oven, so it will still be hot and gooey!! But even when I had a bite this morning at 9am it was still delicious!
