Bryson's Dad

Bryson’s dad, Brian, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease about 10 years ago. Parkinson’s is a degenerative disease that attacks the central nervous system, impairing motor skills, cognitive processes and other functions. Since diagnosis, medication has been used to treat his symptoms but has reached a point at which the side-affects are as harmful as the primary disease. Brian has elected to proceed with a surgical procedure known as deep brain stimulation. The stimulation consists of two electrodes being strategically implanted into the brain and powered by a battery pack in the chest, similar to a pacemaker. This procedure, if successful, may allow for reduced use of medication or even no medication at all. Many patients who have had the surgery have had a great outcome, so we are hoping and praying for that too!

The first of the two surgeries (the first for the brain implants and the second for the pacemaker) is scheduled for Monday 12/13. The first surgery is pretty invasive and a little scary as it will be directly on the brain, all while Brian is awake. (Crazy, I know!) Brian's head will be shaved, a halo will be drilled, and the electrodes will be placed. The second surgery will be 12/30 for the battery pack. Please pray for Brian’s health as well as the surgeons doing the procedure. We know that God is in control of all factors and are excited to see the outcome.

Thanks and Love!
