Most of you know we moved in with my parents 2 weeks after V was born in Austin. Bryson had been unemployed for 6 months previously and had started a job in Houston about 3 weeks before Violet was born. (it was a crazy crazy time!) Graciously my parents said it would be fine if we lived with them. We knew Bryson's job was going to be about a year so it allowed us time to save money and look for a place....it has its ups and downs, goods and bads, pros and cons...
Pros:
-No Rent
-My Dad likes to cook a lot!
-Extra hands to help with Violet
-We were able to build up our savings account! We had very very little before.
-Free/convenient babysitting
-Family dinners
-My parents getting to see Violet's development
-Since I grew up here I'm familiar with the area
-Big Saturday Breakfast!
Cons:
-Not having our own space
-More opinions
-Living far from friends in Houston/feeling left out of group activities/not being able to attend due to traffic/Violet goes to bed early
-Not inviting friends over bc it sometimes feels strange to have people over at my parents
-Bryson's daily commute to/from work is 1.5 hours :(
All in all it's been a mostly good experience. I never thought I would live with my parents after college, but we were surprised/blessed with a little girl and Bryson's new job. We are very very thankful my parents let us live with them. I'm SO glad they have a big upstairs! ha! It has been extremely helpful financially! But at the same time it has been hard, not having our own space and wanting do to things "our" way. I know my parents are (are already) going to miss us...more so Violet, but we're moving inside the loop so it's not that far. My parents have already offered their grandparent/babysitting services as well has getting together for dinners.
