I've been itching to do some type of project or craft lately! As I had said previously I've been looking through a lot of crafty blogs and I kept seeing chalkboards/chalkboard paint pop up. Now I can't wait until we own a home to do a lot more with the actual paint but for now a chalkboard will do! Bryson the handyman/artist/perfectionist was more than happy to assist me in this project. I've seen/read this project done several different ways, so there are many options, but this is how we did it....We made our way to Lowe's on Saturday to buy MDF board, trim, and chalkboard paint. We already had the primer...
Yes, I know this is what you would normally prime a canvas with, but since I was working with an handyman/artist/perfectionist he said this is better than the spray paint stuff I had AND he would let me just skip this part :) So I put two coats on our board
I'm so glad we have this outdoor patio at our apartment! It was the perfect area to do this project! So as we let the prime dry, my handyman/artist/perfectionist got busy on cutting the trim. Though we don't have a table to cut on you can see we had to improvise using a cardboard box. We highly recommend if you are using a circular saw like B did, you know how to use it, dont use a cardboard box and wear your safety goggles...
Though it was a bit difficult with on cardboard box, the angle of the round trim, and the circular saw, Bryson had the chance to dream of one day owning miter saw. and all the different cuts and things he could make..one day B, one day! Once the prime was dry I started with the chalkboard paint
While the paint dried and after we put little V to bed we spray painted the trim.
We let the trim and board dry over night. Then we used wood glue to secure the trim to the board and let it dry for about 5 hours and then...
Yay! Project completed! It was a fairly simple project and total cost around $25! It will be fun to write notes, scripture, menus, or just to be creative on this board!
