March Book #2

Since my first March book wasn't the best, I had to redeem my reading self with a good, stay up late, read all the time type book, and this book did the trick. Ever since I read the two Hawaiian books by Alan Brennert I discovered I really enjoy historical fiction books. This story of Henry Oades was just intriguing to me to find out why he was married to two women! The summary on the back of the book says he thought is first wife was murdered in New Zealand so he married another woman in California. It was a great story of travel and hardship in the 19th century. I was in shock while reading about how hard it was to travel by boat back then. It was terrifying to think of Margaret and her children being kidnapped by the Maori. I absolutely would of died...so scary. But As Henry has to move on with his life he remarries Nancy, but soon after his first wife Margaret and children are let free by the Maori and show up at Henry and Nancy's home. They are in trouble for bigamy with the law and still trying to understand all that has gone on. It's a crazy story that I think would make a GREAT movie! I really enjoyed it! Moran really did a great job at getting the reader to feel what the two wives were feeling. It was hard for me to choose a side I wanted to cheer for, but in the end it wasn't about choosing a side, but realizing what is the law and what is love.
